Valta Launches Energy-Saving Outlets on Kickstarter

July 02, 2013 by Rachel Cericola

As much as we love electronic devices, some of them can be real energy hogseven when you arent using them. A company named Valta wants to identify those energy offenders and even allow you to turn them off.

Valta is a remote energy management system, which is designed to eliminate energy waste. It works in conjunction with devices around your house and an iPhone or other web-enabled device.

Just place the Valta socket in between the outlet and your device of choice, and Valta will monitor the devices standby power. If it senses that the connected component is using energy when not in use, it will send an alert and allow you to turn off that device from your portable.

Valta also promises to track how much energy youre using (in watt hours) and how much its all costing you. It can even store that info in a cloud server, so you can review that information over time.

That said, Valta isnt just for saving you a few bucks. It also acts as a remote control system, allowing users to schedule activities, such as morning coffee or firing up a movie on your homes entertainment system. Valta is expandable, so users can connect up to 16 devices in one home.

Right now, Valta needs a little help funding its production run, so the company has launched a Kickstarter campaign. A pledge of $139 will get you a Valta Early Bird package, which includes one hub and three sockets. Several other options are also available throughout the campaign, which will run through Tuesday, July 23, 2013.
