Review HP Slate 21 Android All-in-One announced

HP has formally announced the Slate 21, the company's latest All-in-One desktop PC, which runs Google's Android operating system rather than Microsoft's more traditional Windows OS.

Essentially a 21in tablet with a kickstand, the Slate 21 has a Full HD, 1,920x1,080 resolution touchscreen display which uses an IPS panel for wide viewing angles. The kickstand can adjust the angle from a monitor-like vertical to an easel-style horizontal position, which should make it easier to sketch or make hand-written notes.

Powered by a quad-core Tegra 4 processor from Nvidia and running the latest 4.2.2 version of Android, the Slate 21 should be fast enough to play any game from the Google Play store at Full HD resolutions, although we're struggling to see who would want an Android desktop PC.

There's no internal battery, so you're totally tied to a desk, and the lack of a Windows OS means you won't be able to run more serious productivity applications like Microsoft Word or Adobe Photoshop, making do with whatever you can find from the Play store instead. A wired mouse and keyboard will come bundled with the system, so you will at least be able to type out emails quicker than you might on a touch screen.

If that doesn't bother you, the Slate 21 is expected to go on sale in the UK from the 1st of October, with prices starting from £369.
